Here you will find all the questions you are not sure if you should ask.

What is Basic Training?

Basic Rover Training is the first of our training courses offered through Scouts Australia Adult Training and Development. 

Basic Rover Training is where you will find out what it means to be a Rover.  

Why should I do training?

Rovers should do training for their personal development. There are so many courses available to Rovers that no matter your skills and interests, you will always be able to find a course that will teach you even more. 

How much will my training cost? 

In Western Australia, all of your training costs are covered by the fees that your Group pays. this means that you can attend Basic Training, Advanced Training, and Basic Outdoor Skills for free. 

What do I need to do before I go to training? 

The pre-course requirements are different for each course, but usually, consist of E-learning and the completion of an application to attend training (TR1). For specific pre-course requirements, check out the pages below. 

What will I do while at my training course?

Again, this depends on what course you are on. All training aims to be fun and educational. 

What scarf should I wear​?

Whenever you attend a training course, you should wear your grey training scarf. if you haven't received one yet get in contact with your trainers, and they arrange to get one for your course. 

What shoes should I wear?

While you are at your training course you will do lots of walking around, along with lots of activities throughout the day. You should wear shoes that are comfortable and practical, and provide you the best support. it is also encouraged that you wear enclosed shoes, you will be spending your time in the bush. 

When do we get training for the new Youth Program? 

Training for the new Youth Program is different from the usual training offered to Rovers. You can find more about the Youth Programs rollout in Western Australia at their website 

What do I need to do to get my Certificat of Adult Leadership? 

There are multiple ways to get your Certificat of Adult Leadership. more info on this can be found on the Basic Training Page. 

Is there anything I can get through Recognition of Competency?

Yes, there is lots you can RoC. depending on what it is, you might be interested to look at the Basic training page, AA Training page, or SAIT page. 

Where do I find all of the workbook attachments? 

You would have been prompted to download the workbook attachments as you worked through your E-learning. if you didn't do it you can go back and download it from the E-learning menu. Some of the attachments will be handed out on the course.  

Do I have to take all of the workbooks to the course? 

No, you don't need to take any of your bookwork on the course. If you do need to take any of the bookwork you will be instructed by the course coordinator. 

How long does it take to finish my training?

This depends on what training you are doing. Basic training, as an example, can be finished in as little as a few months. 

Why should I do Advanced Training? 

Advanced Training offers Rovers the chance to further develop the skills they have learned since completing Basic Rover Training. the skills learned at Advanced Training are essential for Rovers who wish to take on a leadership role, both within Scouting and in their professional lives.
